East Bay United Halloween Update

After a lackluster game two weeks ago and a nail-biter last week, East Bay United showed its true colors with a dominant game Halloween Night against People' s Park. Gone were the turnovers of the past several games, gone was the uncertainty on the offensive side. With a final score of 84-55, the team finally found its offensive groove, and not a moment too soon with play-offs looming in the next several weeks. EB United has now taken sole possession of first place with a 3-1 record.

Everyone showed up to play, and play hard. We were downright scary. Teion Connor is back, with a vengeance. His consistent drives to the cup ended in basket after basket. Dorvez Barnett found his groove from the three point line. And June Jackson was outstanding inside and out, capping a superb first half with a trey that gave him 15 points FOR THE HALF.

Anton ran a tight ship, breaking down the defense and dishing to whoever was most open. Tim Wilder put in a tough performance taking his game down low, grabbing offensive rebounds and finding seams to score against the People's Park bigs who had no answer for him. Tyrone threw down some emphatic dunks including a spectacular one-handed job.Paul bought the team several extra possessions with clutch rebounds and tip-bounds. He also slipped through the baseline to score on a nice reverse. But mainly, he tied down his man and took the People's Park big man completely out of his game.

In addition to Paul's efforts, Ty, June and Erv kept up the defensive pressure, effectively shutting down the People's Park inside game. Erv blocked a shot in the second halfthat put an exclamation point on our defensive stand. D-Money gave them the business on defense and launched a couple of nice treys. In short, everyone contributed, everyone scored. And Juanita Barnett caught it all on tape. Now there has been some discussion that Vez seems to perform better when the camera is on. I don't know for sure, but I am going to ask Juanita to tape the rest of the games.

All-around, a great effort, although, as Erv pointed out, this People's Park team was missing a key player and we shouldn't be complacent going forward. I did get my first technical foul of the season. I will try to contain myself next week as I figure out how to get the referee's attention to signal in our subs.
